We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Prior Authorization Specialist/ Medical Assistant to join our team at Advanced Pain Centers Of Alaska. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive the necessary medical services and treatments by obtaining prior authorizations from insurance providers. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical office setting, and possess a strong understanding of medical coding and insurance verification processes.
We are open Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (32 hours per week.)
Duties:
- Review and process prior authorization requests for medical services, ensuring compliance with insurance guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies to gather necessary information for authorization.
- Maintain accurate records of all authorization requests and outcomes in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize coding knowledge (ICD-10, ICD-9) to ensure proper documentation and justification for requested services.
- Collaborate with other healthcare facilities to facilitate timely approvals for patient care.
- Conduct insurance verification to confirm coverage details and eligibility for services.
- Stay updated on changes in managed care policies, coding practices, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding practices, including ICD-10 and ICD-9.
- Familiarity with managed care systems and insurance verification processes.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with people.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple requests efficiently.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
