Job Overview : The SCADA Systems Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, programming, troubleshooting, and enhancement of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. This position involves working with sensitive and confidential information, requiring the individual to undergo and pass a background check and physical exam. The role demands expertise in SCADA systems, PLCs, and industrial automation, as well as a strong understanding of network security protocols. The SCADA Systems Engineer will work closely with the Technology Services Manager and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure the proper functionality, security, and performance of SCADA systems.
Key Responsibilities :
Perform a full range of complex, analytical duties to maintain SCADA systems.
Install, program, and troubleshoot SCADA hardware and software, including Aveva (formerly Wonderware) System Platform, InTouch, PLCs (Modicon / Allen Bradley), Red Lion OITs, Windows servers / workstations, Cisco routers / firewalls, VPNs, and GE MDS Orbit radios (900MHz and cellular communications).
Upgrade HMIs, PLCs, radios, software, and programming; install software patches / updates for PLCs, radios, SCADA equipment / software, and operating systems.
Design and maintain the SCADA network and communication pathways.
Assist the Technology Services Manager with the implementation of projects to enhance and fortify the SCADA systems and networks.
Verify completion of SCADA-related projects and operational enhancements, including programming changes, implementing servers, workstations, related software, and network equipment.
Analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose root causes of equipment failures, and resolve complex network connectivity issues.
Coordinate system repairs with operations teams and vendors.
Provide analyses and reports on SCADA systems, communications, asset management, and related control systems.
Follow security policies, protocols, and best security practices to protect SCADA systems from cyber threats.
Communicate with management on critical issues and cybersecurity incidents.
Install and configure servers to support multiple virtual machines.
Ensure compliance of facilities and equipment with applicable NEMA and company standards and specifications.
Participate in scheduled safety meetings and training.
Assist in the development of and documentation of process workflows and SCADA system specifications.
Review SCADA and automation designs for integration into system operations and provide startup support for SCADA systems.
Prepare scope of work / requirements documentation from collaboration with stakeholders.
Ensure accurate inventory of all SCADA hardware and software.
Provide on-site (including field office locations) and remote support for SCADA systems.
Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technologies, IT / IS, Computer Science, or other applicable disciplines preferred. Eight (8) years of directly related experience may substitute for a degree.
Experience :
Five (5) years of SCADA and instrumentation equipment or equivalent experience.
Three (3) years of industrial electrical control system installation / maintenance experience.
Three (3) years of programming Aveva (formerly Wonderware) software products (InTouch, System Platform, Historian).
Experience troubleshooting HMI.
Experience programming PLCs.
Experience deriving control requirements from technical documentation, such as P&ID, single-line diagrams, panel drawings, IO lists, specifications, network layouts, control strategies / narratives, OPS memo, etc.
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Windows Server / Windows Operating Systems.
Knowledgeable in virtual machine software (Hyper-V or VMware).
Knowledgeable in Alarm Notification software products (Win911, TopView).
Knowledgeable in Modicon PLC hardware and software products.
Knowledgeable in various communication protocols and configurations utilized in SCADA and Industrial Control Systems.
Knowledgeable in network security for Industrial Control Systems.
Knowledgeable in Industrial IO servers.
Knowledgeable in computer networking.
Familiar with Domain Controllers.
Knowledgeable in cybersecurity best practices.
Knowledgeable in project management and change management processes.
Licensing / Certifications :
Valid California Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to perform physical tasks including but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping, crouching, sitting, typing, driving, reading, writing, color determination, and speaking / listening for extended periods of time.
Additional Information :
This position requires periodic travel to different sites, as well as the ability to respond to after-hours emergencies.
The role will include a background check and physical examination due to the sensitivity of the work.
The SCADA Systems Engineer will need to adhere to strict security protocols to ensure the safety and integrity of systems.
