As a federally funded national institute, the ARM Institute’s mission is to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative robotics technologies that are the foundation of every advanced manufacturing facility today and into the future. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will play a key role in guiding the strategic roadmap for future long-term initiatives aimed at fostering multi-use applications across commercial and government sectors.
The Director of Technology Programs will lead the comprehensive administration and oversight of technology initiatives, from project call through project transition, under our Department of Defense (DoD) and other funding streams for ARM consortium members. You’ll manage your own team of programs managers, while also working collaboratively with a peer Director to ensure all project deliverables and outcomes are on time and on budget, measures project performance along technical and logistic dimensions, and develops mitigation plans when adverse scenarios develop.

What the role includes:
- Lead a comprehensive process to effectively manage programs with diverse timelines and resource allocations. This includes designing and implementing processes, tools, and frameworks to ensure efficient coordination of tasks, timelines, compliance needs, and resources across multiple projects. Actively monitor and forecast budget, deliverables, and evaluate risks, and outcomes of projects.
- Lead technology Programs Managers to ensure that projects are delivered along their scope, quality, time, and cost as defined in their respective sub-awards. Serve as Programs manager on the most complex technology programs. Work alongside a peer Director to manage resources and shift program responsibilities between teams as needed.
- Serve as one of the Institute’s subject matter experts in programs management, tapping into a wide array of knowledge and experience to foster collaboration between industry, government and academia to formulate program plans for members and partners.
- Manage development and verification-validation- qualification programs to ensure that projects are executed, and deliverables are delivered along their scope, quality, time, and cost as defined in their contracts. Identify and implement refined processes to optimize results.
- Establish and monitor processes to facilitate clear communication, seamless collaboration, and optimized resource utilization to meet project objectives within specified timeframes and budget constraints. Additionally, develop processes that adapt to changing priorities, allocate resources dynamically, and mitigate risks to ensure successful programs delivery.
- Knowledgeable and understands the processes and equipment used by manufacturing businesses; ERP, logistics, fabrication, warehousing, and delivery.
- Knowledgeable and understands the processes needed for the development of robots, and autonomous vehicles for example; Vision systems, path planning, AI.
- A resourceful self-starter who takes initiative to quickly assimilate and apply new knowledge.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or physical science or similar field required. Master’s Degree preferred. Demonstrated related experience may substitute for preferred education.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in engineering design, integration or test experience on a development or manufacturing programs preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of project management experience desired.
- Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in projects directly sponsored by or led by the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, or Department of Commerce is preferred.
