What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Scientist position at Advanced Silicon Carbide Materials?
We are seeking an innovative and driven Research Scientist/Principal Investigator to manage and lead various government programs and to enhance our CVC/CVD Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) processes. This role will involve working with cross functional teams, both internally and externally, to deliver critical program results, drive innovation, and contribute to the development of new commercial opportunities. The ideal candidate will have expertise in materials science, optics, and/or engineering, with a focus on process improvement, market research, and commercial development.
MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop deep expertise in Silicon Carbide processes and applications
- Manage government program deliverables, including budget management, timeline adherence, and collaboration with external subcontractors
- Identify and manage critical resource needs for both projects and business growth
- Apply programming experience (i.e., CAD, MATLAB, Python, and/or COMSOL), to develop solutions and enhance research outcomes.
- Lead market research to identify new commercial opportunities for SiC in emerging industries.
- Assist with writing and presenting scientific papers, reports, and research findings in a timely fashion.
- Contribute to the development of business models and commercial strategies, translating research into viable products
- Work collaboratively across teams to help achieve company goals and foster an innovative research environment
- Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements
- Uphold strong ethical standards and company values in all research and business activities
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- A PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Optics, or a related discipline.
- Proven track record of creative, productive research, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations
- U.S. Citizen
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) processes and optical materials
- Proficiency in CAD software, optical design tools (e.g., COMSOL), and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage a scientific audience and translate complex findings into insights
- Highly motivated self-starter with a passion for innovation, working independently, and participating in collaborative team environments
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple tasks with shifting priorities and deadlines
- Experience in market research, application identification and commercial development
- Willingness to travel frequently, including potential long-term stays in Lihue, Hawaii
Qualifications
- Proficiency in CAD, MATLAB, and Python for data analysis and modeling
- Strong understanding of animal physiology and quantum engineering principles
- Experience in experimental design and execution
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
