Chemical Handler 3 - Industrial Safety- HAZMAT- Melbourne FL Performs a variety of tasks in the controlling and monitoring of chemicals within the company facility or manufacturing production organization in accordance with federal, state and local regulations such as EPA Clean Water Act and DOT Toxic Substances Control Act.
Monitors chemicals, related equipment, and waste system indicators; makes chemical and equipment adjustments to ensure proper system functioning and chemical solution balance; removes and disposes of waste chemicals, solvents, and acids; inspects hazardous waste production and storage units; and maintains operational logs. DOT HazMat, 40 hr HAZWOPER, Forklift certification, RCRA Training, Hazard Communication Training and Knowledge, Familiar with SDSs
o Cleans up chemical spills. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Must have a good understanding of chemicals (acids, bases, oxidizers, flammables, reducers, water-reactives) in a variety of forms (liquids, solids, gases, sludges, slurries) and related incompatibilities to prevent undesirable chemical reactions. Work is performed in occasional hazardous working conditions and requires the use of specialized safety equipment and apparatuses.
o Hazardous Materials Center (HMC) ops include accepting and managing hazardous waste from the different departments which may include daily compaction of all bagged waste using a compactor, forklift duties, hazardous waste pickup by vendor, management of HMC supplies, 180-Day Central Accumulation Area Storage inspections, supporting spill cleanup, packing of hazardous waste. Also, ongoing projects and tasks that require daily attention of HMC duties.
o Standing for periods of time, walking distances, capability of some manual lifting of materials / moving 55-gallon haz waste drums, ability to work in Florida outdoor environment.
