SUMMARY: The project coordinator is responsible for driving the execution schedule of assigned projects on the shop floor in support of the manufacturing of engineer-to-order fabricated metal products. There is very little repetitive work, so you will be challenged as new projects are launched and executed. Working closely with purchasing, project management, manufacturing, quality and engineering, you will set up, execute, and status to plans to deliver materials and coordinate work to schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and update execution schedules in a format that the shop floor can perform to.
- Organize materials from component suppliers, raw material suppliers and subcontractors.
- Perform initial assessment of received material per established procedures and specifications and enter data into ERP system.
- Route material to correct area for subsequent processing.
- Coordinate kitting of parts for projects based on bills of materials and kitting lists.
- Provide feedback to appropriate groups regarding quality of received materials and timeliness of order fulfillment.
- Coordinate scheduling of machined parts and fabricated parts, providing visual schedules for each work area. Status to schedule on a periodic basis as required by production and project management.
- Provide support reviewing travelers and work orders as required for manufacturing.
- Monitor and communicate project status to all stakeholders
- Ensure standards and requirements are met on project activities
- Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise in coordination with the shop management and project managers
- Participate in process improvement activities including 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen events.
- All other duties as assigned.
TEAM LEADER / SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide direction to various operations functions while executing a project. Direction is provided in the spirit of organizing and prioritizing the tasks required to complete projects on time and within budget.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent with background in purchasing, materials movement, warehousing, project planning or equivalent in a manufacturing or highly technical industry.
- 1-3 years’ experience in planning role with project-based organization in a Lean environment.
- Experience with a variety of components, including sheet metal parts, machined parts, hardware and fasteners, electromechanical components, and subassemblies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lean or Continuous Improvement concepts and tools
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and bills of materials.
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical specifications, government regulations, quality requirements, purchase orders, kitting lists, and other documents required to plan and execute project activities.
- Experience working in a custom equipment fabrication or highly technical project-based business.
- Must be able to understand scheduling basics and how to plan around resource constraints.
- Ability to use basic hand measuring tools (calipers, tape measures, micrometers) to perform initial assessment of product as needed.
- Highly organized with ability to think critically with high attention to detail.
- Ability to organize work and communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and customers.
- Ability to answer questions effectively during project meetings or production status meetings.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to take ownership of an issue and follow through to resolution.
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Familiarity working with Global Shop Solutions or similar ERP system is preferred.
*Prior training in Lean Manufacturing and work experience in a Lean environment is highly desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment and occasional fumes. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Hearing protection is provided as needed.
PAY RANGE: $56,865 - $74,928
