About the RoleAs a Recreational Therapist, you will develop and implement personalized therapy sessions to help clients improve functional independence, emotional regulation, and social engagement. This role is ideal for a self-motivated professional who thrives in a flexible, client-centered environment and is committed to evidence-based therapy practices.
What Success Looks Like in This Roleβ Creating engaging, therapeutic experiences tailored to each clientβs unique strengths and needs
β Accurately documenting assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans to ensure compliance and quality care
β Collaborating with families, caregivers, and caseworkers to support meaningful client progress
β Advocating for inclusive recreation opportunities in schools and community settings
β Managing a flexible caseload while maintaining high-quality therapy standards
Key ResponsibilitiesπΉ Develop and implement individualized Recreational Therapy treatment plans
πΉ Assess client functional abilities, strengths, and needs using the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) framework
πΉ Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions focusing on motor skills, cognitive function, and emotional well-being
πΉ Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with Medicaid and CMH standards
πΉ Stay up to date with best practices and research in Recreational Therapy
πΉ Educate and mentor interns and students pursuing Recreational Therapy certification
Qualificationsβ Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) β Required
β Experience working with individuals with disabilities, IDD, or behavioral health needs
β Strong assessment, documentation, and treatment planning skills
β Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with teams and families
β Ability to work independently while maintaining high professional standards
β Knowledge of Medicaid documentation standards (preferred)
