Description
- The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant is responsible for the performance of all duties relating to patient care processes in the Urology clinic. The Medical Assistant must be able to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner to personnel, patients and physicians. The position is task and detail oriented, with goal of providing quality patient care in relation to the patient's diagnosis and treatment needs.
Position Responsibilities
Assessment and Documentation of New Patient/Return Patients/Consults
1. Review of patients history, inclusive of prior medical/surgical and urological history and thorough documentation completion, inclusive of assessment requirements
2. Review of available information obtained by other health care team members internal and external
3. Recognition of recent and prior diagnostic test results having relevance to patients current urological health history
4. Provide urological educational requirements of the urological patient under direct of physician, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse
Performance of clinical skills
1. Laboratory services of venipuncture, urinalysis, and knowledge of laboratory reference services and their requirements
2. Uroflow
3. Post Void Residual Testing
4. Urinary Catheterization
5. Preparation and possible direct assistance of urological office procedures
6. Vital signs
7. Medication administration; injections, intravesical, oral under the direct supervision of physician
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Registered/Certified by accrediting program
- Ability to speak, read, and write English
- Ability to calculate basic math
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills/knowledge and keyboarding skills
- Ability to work independently or as a team
- Must be able to multi-task, use critical thinking and problem solving skills and analyze data
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time
- Requires frequent bending, squatting, stooping or stretching
- Ability to perform proper body mechanics and have the ability to assist patients with ambulating, transferring on/off table, chair, or wheelchair
- Ability to lift 0-15 pounds without assistance
- Possess physical agility to respond in a quick manner and appropriately to respond to unexpected patient and family safety needs
Customer Service
- Professional communication with patients, families, physicians and institutional departments to achieve optimal urological care
- Assesses and anticipates patient and family response to urological treatment plan and provides for necessary interventions
- Provides for timely communication to patients, families, physicians, and other staff members
Technology
- Provide for documentation electronic environment following established protocols
- Ensure responsibility of current passwords for required institutions and facilities
- E-prescribe applicable patients under the direct supervision of physician and within Advanced Urology
- Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines/regulations
Safety
- Follow safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions
- Follow standard precautions in the provision of patient care and implements other infection control measures as necessary
- Utilizes equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and institutional policy
- Reports/documents unexpected occurrences involving patients and others as appropriate
- Follows facility specific emergency and disaster preparedness plans
Salary : $18 - $20
