Summary
The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all procedures and policies that govern and maintain a high standard of quality in our production processes are practiced in the operations environment.
The Inspector verifies the quality of setup and production material. They must know the technical requirements while having the ability to communicate quality standards with press operators and assemblers. In this way the Inspector can trouble shoot in-process quality problems and contribute to the development of inspection methods. Ultimately, the Inspector makes sure that the finished product that comes off the press or an assembly machine is one that will meet and even exceed customer requirements thus eliminating rejections or failures at customer sites.
The desired situation is to have operators and assemblers who can certify the quality of the produced parts as they leave the workstation. However, the Inspector must still play a role in assuring that quality procedures are being followed at the workstations. Inspectors assist the Quality Manager and Production Supervisor on quality-related items.
The position is based in Milan, MI.
Responsibilities
- Performs in-process quality checks correctly. This includes part and gauge inspection at the workstation as well as inspection of finished parts.
- Assures that required in-process documentation (SPC charts and Production Inspection Reports) is properly completed at assigned workstations.
- Identifies, verifies, tag and contains non-conforming material.
- Dispenses and masters in-process measuring instruments at the workstations.
- Assures that proper documentation is taken to workstations as required.
- Assist the Quality Engineers when information is needed to conduct studies or perform problem solving procedures.
- Assists in maintaining production inspection job logbook.
- Assists in performing lot traceability and root cause.
- Attend and participate in manufacturing meetings as required.
- Performs lot traceability, SPC and Systems audits and Setup approval.
- Conduct & assist in performing final dock audits as required.
- Assists gauge and R & R studies.
- Assists in improvements and maintenance of current quality systems and procedures.
- Assists in performance of capability studies of samples and in-process materials.
- Assists in performance of quality procedures in the Receiving Area as required.
- Uses blueprint reading skills to help clarify specifications for parts and interpret engineering changes as they occur.
- Performs procedures to expedite the disposition of defective raw material.
- Assists in maintaining accuracy of PIR sheets or Inspection Reports.
- Ensures that the proper procedures are followed for paperwork setup and first piece part approvals.
- Performs inspection of production parts, utilizing fixtures and gauges.
- Improves and maintains current quality systems and procedures.
- Assists fixture, gauge and measuring instrument R & R studies.
- Assists capability studies of samples and in-process materials.
- Performs quality procedures in the Receiving Area as required.
- Assists with training of new inspectors.
- Complete other duties or tasks directed at the request of the Quality Manager.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Good attendance history is a must.
- 2 years related work experience.
- Experience working with Plex a plus.
- Computer Skills (MS Office: Email/Word/Excel)
- Knowledgeable in basic principles of statistical process control and have hands-on ability to work with production inspection reports.
- Some blueprint reading ability is necessary along with an understanding of metrology (the use of gauges and measuring devices).
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing/email
- Knowledge of basic math is required.
- The Inspector must be very proactive, and people focused.
