Job Overview:
The Civil Designer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and detailing of structural and civil engineering projects. This role involves collaboration with architects, engineers, and construction teams to create safe, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing structures and infrastructures. The designer will use advanced software tools to develop detailed plans and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Drafting: Create detailed structural and civil designs using CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, etc.). Produce plans, sections, and detail drawings for various projects, including buildings, bridges, roads, and other infrastructures.
- Analysis and Calculations: Perform structural analysis and calculations to ensure designs meet safety and performance standards. Utilize software tools such as SAP2000, ETABS, and STAAD.Pro.
- Code Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards and codes (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE).
- Project Coordination: Work closely with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate structural and civil designs with architectural and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) plans.
- Site Inspections: Conduct site visits to assess project progress, ensure design adherence, and resolve any on-site issues. Provide technical support during construction.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain project documentation, including design reports, specifications, and construction documents. Ensure all records are up-to-date and accurately reflect design changes.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and address design challenges and construction issues. Propose innovative solutions to improve project outcomes.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices. Participate in professional development activities and training programs.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in structural and civil design. Experience with both commercial and residential projects is advantageous.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit), structural analysis tools (SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro), and civil design software (Civil 3D).
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or the ability to obtain licensure within a specified period.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of structural mechanics, material science, and soil mechanics. Proficient in creating detailed design drawings and specifications.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present complex information clearly and effectively to clients, contractors, and team members.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of design and documentation.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve design and construction issues efficiently.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and coordinate with multiple disciplines.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Office-based with regular site visits. May require occasional travel to project sites.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct site inspections, which may involve climbing ladders, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to various weather conditions.
