The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for projects within a refinery setting, including maintenance, turnarounds, and capital projects. This role involves analyzing project specifications, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs to ensure competitive and profitable bids. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to develop detailed cost projections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed cost estimates for refinery projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and scope of work to determine project requirements.
- Gather and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, and procurement teams to ensure accurate estimates.
- Assess potential risks and incorporate contingency plans into cost estimates.
- Prepare and present cost analysis reports to management and stakeholders.
- Ensure estimates comply with industry regulations, company policies, and client requirements.
- Maintain historical cost data and update estimating tools for improved accuracy.
- Support contract negotiations by providing cost breakdowns and justifications.
- Assist in project scheduling and resource planning based on estimate projections.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
- 5 years of estimating experience, preferably in refinery, oil & gas, or heavy industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of cost estimation principles, including labor, materials, and equipment pricing.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Sage Estimating, HeavyBid, or Aspen Capital Cost Estimator.
- Experience with refinery operations, maintenance, and construction processes including mechanical, civil/structural, and E&I.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
