Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Nurse Manager to oversee the daily operations of a 24/7 Behavioral Health Crisis Center. The Nurse Manager will provide leadership and direction to nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients in a crisis setting. This role involves ensuring compliance with state and facility regulations, supporting nursing staff, collaborating with leadership teams, and managing various administrative and clinical duties. While the Nurse Manager will supervise nurses and techs, they will work collaboratively with the Nurse Practitioners on-site, who are responsible for leading day-to-day operations. The Nurse Manager will also report directly to the BHCC Director and work collaboratively with the Chief Clinical Officer on medical issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Management:
- Supervise, schedule, and provide leadership to nursing staff and tech in a 24/7 environment.
- Ensure appropriate unit staffing ratios based on state standards and facility guidelines.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
- Address employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and implement progressive disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Provide ongoing training, education, and support to staff, especially those struggling with protocols and procedures.
- Lead onboarding processes for new hires and assist with ongoing professional development.
- Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners and other leadership members to ensure unit needs are met.
Patient Care Oversight:
- Monitor patient care delivered by nursing staff, ensuring the highest standards are met.
- Review patient charts, care plans, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and well-being.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, coordinating necessary interventions and ensuring staff are equipped to handle critical situations.
- Support staff in emergency situations by providing guidance, direction, and education.
Quality Assurance:
- Develop, implement, and review nursing audits to ensure appropriate documentation and care practices.
- Ensure compliance with state regulations and agency policies and procedures.
- Address and investigate concerns submitted to the leadership team and take corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure completion of drills and other required compliance activities.
- Participate in the Critical Incident Review process and ensure completion of necessary documentation.
- Monitor the Client Safety Platform (CSP) and take appropriate actions to address any safety concerns.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Participate in leadership team meetings to offer insights, provide support, and assist with problem-solving.
- Collaborate with state and local hospitals to develop relationships that will support patient referrals and improve service delivery.
- Review and update medical policies and procedures on an annual basis.
- Support Nurse Practitioners in completing duties and assist in ensuring day-to-day operations are efficient and effective.
- Meet regularly with the BHCC Director to discuss facility needs, operations, and any concerns.
- Work closely with the Chief Clinical Officer to address medical issues and ensure clinical excellence within the facility.
- The Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with the Nurse Practitioners to ensure that unit needs are met.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, ensuring compliance with facility policies and state regulations.
- Conduct EMAR reviews and address medication variances.
- Ensure appropriate nursing compliance with all procedures and regulations within the facility.
- Handle scheduling needs, ensuring adequate coverage for nursing staff.
- Assist with managing unit budgets and resource allocation as required.
On-Call Rotation:
- Participate in the on-call rotation, providing leadership and support during off-hours and always ensuring the unit’s smooth operation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) License with current registration.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Proven leadership and communication skills.
- Extensive experience in clinical practice and patient care.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in staff management, including coaching, mentoring, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Knowledge of state regulations, care partner protocols, and quality assurance processes in healthcare settings.
- Ability to manage and address medication variances and patient safety concerns.
- Previous experience in Crisis Acute Care settings is a plus.
