Overview
The Dental Service Representative is responsible for coordinating dental procedures; obtaining supporting documents from the dental team to request preauthorization from third party payers; scheduling and monitoring dentist’s schedules, collecting and posting dental payments and preparing daily claims for billing.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge of NYS Dental Medicaid billing.
- Collect treatment fees due from patients and document date-of-service payments.
- Resolve patient concerns; answer or seek to find an answer to patient inquiries.
- Confirm Appointments and check eligibility.
- Prepare necessary financial documents for patients’ approval.
- Discuss estimates and payment arrangements with patients.
- Complete and submit Preauthorization and predetermination forms to DMOs and other payers.
- Prepare and validate dental claims for billing before submitting them to insurers to ensure that they're accurate, complete, and have the correct codes.
- Research and update referrals.
- Send X-rays and follow-up documentation through Apteryx.
- Work closely with the dental team and accounting for Self-pay accounts.
- Retrieve review of dental history on insurance portal.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of a dental assistant training program, a plus.
- Preferred 2-years’ experience in a dental field.
- Familiarity serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, a plus.
- Proficiency in oral, written and computer skills, required.
- Knowledge of Dental Software, x-rays.
- Competent in dental terminology and procedures.
- Proficiency with Preauthorization with Medicaid managed care plans and third-party plans.
- Good patient service skills and ability to work as a team in a fast-paced environment.
