Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

  • Ability to lead teams and direct operations to maximize production and profitability.
  • Ability to proactively drive change within the organization. Ability to understand that change is constant and we will continually strive to improve our processes and information systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, explain and consistently apply complex regulations and polices related to; Safety compliance, Environmental compliance, Scrap purchasing requirements, Employee relations, and Best practices.
  • Ability to select, lead and develop people of different backgrounds to execute the company’s objectives.
  • Proactively improve facility efficiency and effectiveness by driving improvement in operations and equipment reliability.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand financial statements and the ability to project the impact of decisions on the financial results of an operation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline, along with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a business environment required; OR 5 year’s operations, heavy industrial or manufacturing experience with demonstrated leadership ability and understanding of business management concepts required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience with direct reports required
  • Effective communication skills with people at all levels of employees within the organization.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.

Detailed Selection Criteria:

  • Leadership Presence and Courage – Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on critical alignment issues such as teamwork, building relationships, initiating, and supporting change. This includes the willingness to face adversity and conflict.
  • Business Acumen - General business knowledge and understanding of fundamental financial and accounting policies and practices. Ability to forecast profitability accurately.
  • Communication Skills – The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information frequently and consistently so that others will understand, excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to express thoughts and ideas verbally and in writing to effectively communicate key information.
  • Developing and Building Teams - Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members as well as effectively managing and resolving conflict as needed.
  • Initiative – Being proactive with seeking out work that needs to be done, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges. Ability to analyze, problem solve and think strategically.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work – Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish individual work. Includes reprioritizing as needed to help the line accomplish an overall goal. Demonstrated ability to manage and execute large, complex projects on time, under budget, within scope.
  • Problem Solving and Judgment/Decision Making - Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing costs and benefits and other related information to develop and evaluate options and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Coaching and Developing Others – Demonstrated ability to identify the developmental needs of others to include coaching, mentoring, teaching, training, or otherwise helping others to improve their skills to work effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scrap processing industry experience a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual Spanish speaking, is preferred
  • Experience interfacing with customers and providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to travel between locations and work in different environments as needed.
