Role and Responsibilities:
Full Time position supporting various technical installation, welding, integration, and repair tasks for the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS). Effort primarily includes welding but may also include mechanical, electrical, network, cabling, pipe systems and other
technical tasks, as required. The SDTS is located at NSWC Port Hueneme, California.
Position Qualifications:
• Eight (8) to ten 10 years of welding experience.
• Must pass hands-on welding test demonstrating welding skills. Test to include GTIG, GMIG, SMAW, and/or various brazing procedures.
• Must be proficient with common hand and power tools performing field activity support tasks as defined, as well as, fabricate and install shipboard parts/equipment.
• Able to work independent or in a team environment completing various repair and installation/integration projects.
• Must be punctual to work and able to work under minimal supervision, plan, perform and complete tasks with limited guidance.
• Must be able to pass a doctor’s physical examination.
• Must have no criminal record and able to satisfactorily complete background check and drug test.
• Should have basic computer Microsoft Office skills (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, data entry)
• Have a valid driver’s license with own transportation.
• Able to follow company policies and procedures.
• Able to write, speak and understand English and able to write clear, detailed reports.
Preferred Skills:
• Shipboard experience.
• Hands on electrical skills/knowledge.
• Experienced rigger and fork lift driver.
• Experience with shipboard repairs providing welding services on HPACs, LPACs, AC Units, Steering
Gear, Refrigeration, communications systems, pipe systems, hoses, fans, heat exchangers, etc.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Able to work in confined spaces and spaces with significant heights.
• Must be able to get underway, as required, to complete repairs.
