We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Accountant for a temporary role for our client up in the San Gabriel Valley area. This position will be working onsite.
Pay up to $27.00 per hour
This role is responsible for managing the financial integrity and accuracy of project accounting, with a focus on cost analysis, compliance, and job closure activities. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, familiarity with utility accounting practices, and experience working with as-built documentation and construction accounting systems.
Key Duties for the Project Accountant:
- Review the completeness and accuracy of job closing packages to ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Perform detailed cost and budget analyses on projects, ensuring all supporting documentation, approvals, and financial records are accurate and properly maintained.
- Read and interpret as-built drawings to identify newly installed and retired facilities.
- Prepare comprehensive cost summaries for work orders pending closure.
- Develop and process both single and compound journal entries to support the recording of utility plant additions and retirements.
- Generate final cost statements for completed new business projects.
- Manage and report on special projects and produce periodic account analysis reports as required.
- Develop and execute PowerPlant queries for internal reporting and analysis.
- Ensure Contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC) assets are created accurately, and cost of removal processes are executed in compliance with applicable guidelines.
Key Requirements for the Project Accountant:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years of experience in project accounting or a similar role, preferably in utilities or construction.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, GAAP, and utility plant accounting.
- Proficiency in Excel (vlookup/pivot tables) and any large ERP system like SAP.
- Ability to interpret technical construction documents such as as-built drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
