Advent Episcopal School—an independent, Episcopal school located in Birmingham, Alabama, serving grades JPK-8—seeks a Junior Pre-Kindergarten (JPK) Assistant Teacher who is committed to supporting an exceptional early childhood education rooted in best practices. Advent Episcopal School enrolls approximately 230 students with the mission to provide a superior education in a caring, Christian environment, preparing students for lives of continued learning, leadership, and service. This is a full-time position for the 2025-2026 school year that will work in partnership with the JPK Lead Teacher and report to the Director of Lower School.

About The Position

The JPK Teacher Assistant plays a key role in fostering a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for our youngest learners. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education and thrives in a collaborative setting, supporting the lead teacher in implementing a curriculum that promotes foundational skills, social-emotional growth, and curiosity-driven learning. This position requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to classroom support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities across core early childhood subjects.
  • Support the daily routines and structure of the classroom, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment.
  • Foster positive interactions with students, guiding them in developing social, emotional, and academic skills.
  • Help manage classroom organization, including materials preparation, setup, and cleanup.
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and support behavior management strategies to ensure a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Assist in observing and documenting student progress, providing insights that inform instruction.
  • Engage with parents and caregivers as needed, supporting the school-home partnership.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

Skills And Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Early Childhood Education or related field); an associate degree or significant relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with young children in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and a commitment to play-based and inquiry-driven learning.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the lead teacher and adapt to the evolving needs of young learners.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive community that values diversity.
  • Enthusiasm for working within a faith-based school environment and supporting the school’s mission.
