GENERAL SUMMARY : The Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) provides senior leadership and direction to the AdventHealth Research Enterprise. The CSO works with senior corporate leadership to develop the vision and strategic agenda for research to be performed at AdventHealth and ensures that the AdventHealth research vision is achieved.The CSO leads the research executive team, manages academic, basic, translational, and industry research relationships, works with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to embed research in clinical settings as well as graduate medical education programs, and develops a research model that fosters the strategic growth of research across the organization.The CSO will also support research into the application of and effectiveness of whole person care.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES : Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth’s core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork.Scope of Responsibility : Develop a multidisciplinary research strategy for the AdventHealth Research Institute (AHRI), including program metrics to track and report goals.Provide oversight to research activities across AH and ensure compliance with relevant statutes and policies.Chair the AdventHealth Research Council.Lead the development and management of research policy and procedures for AH Corporate.Coordinate research across all divisions.Set strategy and direction for AH research operations, identifying prioritized research themes.Use the research agenda to stimulate and advance clinical and market-facing strategies.Maximize the impact of AH research (ROI) by focusing resources on high-impact results.Improve and expand research resources to increase efficiency and catalyze externally funded research.Integrate research and service lines to improve health, reduce costs, and enhance patient experience.Lead philanthropic efforts related to research.Mentor research departments on strategy, faculty recruiting, and grant success.Strengthen research integrity and compliance.Support GME research and physician / scientist training.Advise on scientific matters and integrate research findings across the system.Assist in evaluating new science and technologies through the Office of Scientific Review.Recruit physician scientists to the AH research enterprise.Identify key areas for the research portion of the legislative agenda in collaboration with the VP of Research.Manage relationships with academic institutions for research cooperation and funding.Enhance the AH brand through public relations and annual research reports.Develop research training and mentoring programs.Maintain an active independent research program.Direct the Research Leadership Team.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED : Ability to lead diverse teams in research administration and operations.Strategic planning, budget, and pro forma development.Development of metrics and performance assessment.Collaborative leadership style.EDUCATION REQUIRED : M.D. and / or Ph.D. from an accredited institution.Post-graduate training in a medical specialty.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED : Clinical-translational research experience in an academic environment.Experience in building industry partnerships.At least 15 years in a clinical research environment.History of sustained research funding.Senior level experience in research administration and finance.Knowledge of federal research regulations.Experience in setting vision and strategic direction for research funding.Ability to work collaboratively in a complex environment.Exceptional communication skills.LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED : Current, unrestricted State of Florida license as a medical doctor; orUnrestricted State of Florida license within one year of hire; orIf Ph.D., successful acquisition of doctorate degree.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Directs the Research Leadership Team.This facility is an equal opportunity employer and complies with federal, state and local anti-discrimination laws.
