Schedule: PRN – Per Diem
Shift : Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM

The role you’ll contribute:
The hospital chaplain offers spiritual support to patients, their families and hospital staff. This ministry is manifested most clearly in times of crisis. The chaplain is committed to respect the dignity and faith tradition of each individual, and to guide and direct the spiritual climate of the institution. They base their pastoral care ministry on an inclusive basis, open to persons of all faiths or no faith. The chaplains also facilitate communication between patients and their faith communities. The hospital chaplain is selected and appointed by the hospital system.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
- Make spiritual support visits to patients and their family members during the patient’s hospitalization.
- Respond to referrals from physician and nurses and to requests for spiritual care from patients and their family members.
- Arrange for spiritual assessment of all new admissions by the Chaplain or Volunteer Chaplains in the initial spiritual support visit.
- Supervise and share on-call responsibilities with seasoned pastors from the community.
- Establish a close working relationship with case managers to assist in resolving psychosocial concerns of patients and families.
- Be available to hospital staff members for pastoral counseling, crisis ministry and education.
- Chair the Ethics Committee.
- Direct the Grief Recovery group and participate in other support groups as invited.
- Coordinate the Breathe Free Plan to Stop Smoking and promote physician referrals by providing them brochures.
- Educate the hospital staff on the role and function of the Chaplain and Volunteer Chaplains.
- Provide appropriate literature for patients and guests in waiting areas.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
