JOB FUNCTION:
The Cardiovascular Laboratory Registered Nurse accepts responsibility and accountability for the nursing care for the designated group of patients within the CVL department. Pay negotiable based on Cath Lab experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. The CVL nurse utilizes and documents the nursing process to include assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and includes the patient education and discharge planning needs.
2. The nurse will demonstrate ethical and appropriate clinical behavior for the clinical environment to include (but not limited to) respect for the patient’s dignity, rights to privacy, age, confidentiality, and specific care needs.
3. The Registered Nurse is proficient in all aspects of angiography, preparation, assessment, documentation and monitoring consistent with the policies, procedures and processes of the Cardiovascular Cath Lab.
4. Adheres to the guidelines and standards of professional practice associations.
5. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
6. Identifies and prepares patient using aseptic technique as dictated by procedure ordered.
7. Exhibits awareness of hazards which may endanger patients.
8. Ensures adherence to regulatory standards and enforces safety regulations.
9. Annually meets all required department specific competencies
10. Verifies orders and facilitates implementation, communicating with physician as needed. P
11. Performs treatments and administers medications according to policy and training.
12. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies.
13. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and medications.
14. Produce an accurately written, promptly completed medical record for each patient based on the scope and complexity of the intervention procedure and patient clinical conditions.
15. Maintains authenticity and security of the record, and follows prescribed process for amending documents
16. Follows CDC isolation guidelines, appropriately uses PPE, and performs hand hygiene
17. Performs effectively in two of the three procedural roles (circulate, monitor, scrub) required in a therapeutic cardiac laboratory team based on the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals Scope of Practice.
18. Demonstrates responsible decision making in planning, providing and delegating care base on assessment.
19. Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two-way communication with peers, staff, physicians and administration.
20. Adapts to change in a positive, professional manner.
21. Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command.
22. Uses patient safety techniques in the delivery of medications. Dispenses medications safely as evidenced by no more than three (3) medication errors per year, and six (6) medication documentation errors within each year. Demonstrates or verbalizes knowledge of safe administration of frequently used medications (actions, side effects, dosage, interaction with other drugs, and contraindications), and documents administration of said medications appropriately.
23. Performs conscious sedation, in accordance with policy.
24. Assist in assessment of emergency procedures and responds appropriately to emergency transfers.
25. Assesses critical changes in a patient’s condition and takes action, notifying the physician appropriately.
26. Preforms other tasks according to departmental needs
Qualifications:
1. Two years of Interventional Cardiovascular Lab experience required
2. Interventional Radiology Lab experience (preferred)
3. Peripheral Vascular Lab experience (preferred)
4. Electrophysiology Lab experience (preferred)
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
1. Current license to practice in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse
2. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support
3. Current Basic Life Support
4. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) preferred
Education and/or Experience:
Graduate of Baccalaureate or Associates Degree Nursing Program
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedures, medical records, financial reports and laws, rules and regulations. Additional language desirable.
