Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for processing, maintaining and organizing instruments, equipment and supplies used in surgery.
Education/Training
Certification is a plus!
Experience Required!
Knowledge/Abilities
Functional knowledge of various methods used to clean, sterilize and package instruments and surgical supplies.
Knowledge of instrument names and ability to recognize malfunctioning instruments and equipment. Knowledge of chemicals used to clean/process instruments and surgical supplies.
Responsibilities (may not be an all inclusive list)
1. Processes instruments according to policy, ensuring sterility and cleanliness at all times, documenting as required
2. Organizes sets according to instrument list; dates and signs as indicated.
3. Maintains set lists and updates as determined by Clinical Manager.
4. Manages the flow of activity in the central core area under the direction of the Clinical Manager.
5. Ensures daily and weekly cleaning of sterilizers and washer-sterilizer.
6. Operates autoclave, washer-sterilizer, and any other equipment necessary to process instruments.
7. Reports any malfunctioning equipment or instruments immediately to Clinical Manager.
8. Ensures that items necessary for surgery are sterilized and available for use in a timely manner.
9. Keeps abreast of the flow of cases and the needs of the surgeon and staff while surgeries are in progress, and organizes work accordingly.
10. Assists with O.R. turnovers as needed and able.
11. Follows protocol for decontamination of instruments and sets, according to policy.
12. Manages the utilization and disposal of contaminated waste; ensures that bio-hazardous waste is boxed and handled according to protocol.
13. Assists Clinical Manager with inventory specific to the Central area. Identifies needs, and lists items for Clinical Manager.
14. Responsible for cleaning and restocking scrub sink areas.
15. Maintains sterilization records according to established procedure.
16. Responsible for ensuring all appropriate biological tests are completed daily on flash sterilizers and steris units.
17. Ensures records are completed, and reports problematic areas to the Clinical Manager.
18. Assists with obtaining special instruments, sets, and equipment as necessary from off-site locations.
19. Follows special requests to assist others as determined by the Clinical Manager.
20. Practices constructive interpersonal communications skills.
21. Conforms to all rules and regulations governing the Operating Room and its functions.
22. Maintains all equipment and instrumentation, ensuring adequate function and operation.
23. Assists in arrangement for repairs as delegated by Clinical Manager.
24. Assists with the pulling of cases as needed.
25. Maintains the Central/Sterile area, puts sets away, and ensures that the area is neat and organized.
26. Tracks equipment and instruments that have been loaned or borrowed.
27. Performs all other duties assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.35 - $25.19 per hour
