Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Monitor patients' vital signs and assess their condition post-surgery
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians
- Assist with patient recovery and ensure their comfort and safety
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care instructions
- Document patient information, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes
- Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
· Follows policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for perioperative nursing care according to accepted standards.
· Plans, implements, and evaluates pre and post operative nursing care for patients based on individual, specific patient needs, and according to physician’s orders.
· Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of intravenous therapy, medication administration and effects, patient assessment, airway maintenance, patient teaching, emotional/social support of patients and families, and other needed clinical competencies.
· Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures.
· Communicate patient’s current status throughout the continuum of care.
· Administer medication(s) appropriately.
· Perform interventions to maintain patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
· Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems, and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels.
· Perform interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
· Perform interventions to protect patient from infection.
· Assess knowledge level of patient or designated support person and provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
· Actively involve patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
· Protect patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
· Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
· Provide consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting.
· Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
· Transfer care as appropriate.
· Delegate tasks as appropriate according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions.
· Document nursing care.
· Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as appropriate.
· Maintain required competencies.
· Attend required meetings and educational sessions.
· Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy of all appropriate information.
Skills:
- Proficient in specimen collection processing and handling
- Knowledge of hospital protocols and procedures
- Strong understanding of human physiology and anatomy
- Knowledge of infection control practices to ensure patient safety
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
· Organizational and multi-tasking skills
· Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
· Ability to work as a Team player within a unit
· Effective verbal and oral communication and problem-solving skills
