The role you’ll contribute:
The Point of Care Coordinator, who may also be known as a Medical Technologist, is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of hospital Point of Care Testing (POCT), encompassing both waived and non-waived tests, in strict adherence to State and Federal regulations, accreditation standards including those set by the Joint Commission and CLIA. This role involves performing competency validated laboratory procedures as ordered by the appropriate medical staff and physicians. Additionally, the coordinator is tasked with the technical oversight and supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Point-of-Care department, assisting the departmental manager with leadership duties as assigned. This position ensures compliance with relevant statutes and regulations, maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practice. Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution; or Bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing. Must hold a national certification from ASCP, AAB, or AMT, NRCC.

- Ensures the Quality Management of the POCT program is maintained in adherence to applicable regulations and accreditation standards.
- Maintains POCT policies and procedures.
- Maintains self-competencies required to oversee the POCT program.
- Represents the AdventHealth Laboratory department in a manner consistent with supervisory responsibility in patient, employee, visitor, and physician interactions.
- Ensures all testing personnel have required training and competency assessment maintained and appropriately documented.
- Evaluates AdventHealth hospital personnel in accordance with performance standards of non-waived and waived point-of-care testing.
- Provides technical oversight for instrumentation, method evaluations, implementation, correlations, and validations for in-house departments.
- Review Quality Control, patient results, and other Quality Assurance documentation; coordinate proficiency testing performance and results for testing.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related science
- 2 clinical laboratory experience.
- In licensure states, Laboratory Supervisor Level Licensure in appropriate specialty(ies) for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state OR in non-licensure states, must hold a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT unless grandfathered per state requirement
