ADRA Bridge Intern -- Finance and Operations 2024

The ADRA BRIDGE Internship Program is designed to recognize talent, develop talent through mentorship and shape talent into International Development professionals.
ADRA BRIDGE is for undergraduate and graduate students that are interested in learning more about the International Development industry and non-profit work. ADRA BRIDGE will give interns the opportunity to learn more about the International Development industry and how their talents and skills can be an asset to this industry. Learning from International Development professionals, interns will be able to apply their classroom knowledge in a real world setting.
ADRA is looking for interns that are passionate, excited and have the desire to learn and grow. Interns will build their strengths, build their resumes and become the professionals with the experience needed in the workforce.
The ADRA BRIDGE Internship Program is based in the headquarters of ADRA International in Silver Spring, Maryland. Interns will not be placed internationally at this time.
Internship length:
Undergraduate/Graduate: 6 Months, beginning in Summer of 2024

Eligibility
- Currently studying and is a qualified junior or senior in their undergraduate program
- Currently in the process of completing or completed a graduate degree
- 6 to 12 months removed from completion of undergraduate or graduate degree
- Available 20-29 hours a week for a minimum of 12 weeks beginning in June, 2024
- Legal right to work in the United States
- Committed to uphold the standards of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
Preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite, emphasis on excel
- Nitro/Adobe
- Pursuing a degree in Business or Accounting
- Must have completed Principals of Accounting I and II

Internship Assignment: Finance and Operations

Responsibilities
- System conversion -support
- Invoice reviews
- Statement Tracking
- Reconciliation of activity
- Journal Entries/Imports
- Exposure: Chart of Accounts/dimensions; Functional accounting; Fund accounting;Disbursement methods; Fraud reviews and preventive controls
- Support with hands on assistance in the various process will greatly support the team as the work through the transition of accounting software, re-envisioning processes and procedures in new systems with modern tools and applications promoting efficiency.
The intern will assist with the Accounts payable cycle, having exposure to the various systems and procedures, gaining an understanding on how the processes work together to support the internal control environment, reducing against risk of fraud, promoting proper segregation, and fulfilling the financial obligations of the Agency.
The intern will have opportunity for hands on transactions, assisting through payment cycles by reviewing, recording, and reconciling activity for financial transactions. The timing for this internship assists Finance in a staff intensive time of change. It also allows the intern to participate in system conversion process that does not occur frequently in most careers. Being able to see the evaluation process, sit in on discussions, and understand the decisions made in the implementation of moving forward with modern accounting software, allows the intern to gain perspective of both the driving controls and the modern applications to address the needs and reporting in a dynamic system.
