Job Summary
Provides personal nursing care to the patient under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Performs tasks associated with activities of daily living including self-care needs. Performs routine assigned tasks and reports patients' status and concerns to the RN.

Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) Health Care Provider certification: Required
- Performs tasks associated with activities of daily living, including assisting with nutrition and hydration, elimination, personal care, positioning devices and restorative care.
- Authorized Duties and Standards per Chapter 851 Division 63, may include: Giving Chlorhexidine bath; Assisting with coughing and deep breathing; Turning oxygen on and off or transferring oxygen between wall, concentrator, and tank at pre-established flow rate for stable individuals; Changing a suction canister; Applying external catheters and connecting external catheters to suction; Collecting specimens; sputum, stool, and urine including clean catch urine specimens; Applying, turn on and off, sequential compression devices; Assisting a person in and out of continuous passive motion (CPM) machine; Measuring, recording, and emptying output from drainage devices and closed drainage systems; Performing fingerstick capillary blood test; Removing mask after nebulizer treatment; Caring for the deceased individual including removing non-surgically inserted tubes.
- Duties that are NOT permitted per Chapter 851 Division 63 include (refer to Chapter 851 for comprehensive list): Obtaining a throat swab; Obtaining urine specimen from port of catheter; Pausing and resuming established post pyloric, jejunostomy and gastrostomy tube feedings to provide personal care; Discontinuing a urethrally inserted catheter; Discontinuing a saline lock; Interrupting and re-establishing nasogastric (NG) suction; Measuring arm and leg circumference; Placing electrodes/leads for telemetry; Suctioning nose or oral pharynx; Testing stool for occult blood; Scanning bladder.
- Takes vital signs including, pulse and blood pressure, helps patients with their basic needs, i.e., bathing, dressing and feeding, performs a variety clerical duties, which include but are not limited to routing patient reports as appropriate and uses organizational skills to keep department running smoothly and uses prioritization skills to meet deadlines as indicated.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
