Job Summary:
Leads and manages the respiratory patient care team while focusing on patient, physician, and staff satisfaction in the areas of NICU, Pediatric, Adult, and Outpatient services. Sets strategic goals and manages performance improvement while meeting budgetary goals. Works with physicians, patients, and staff to maintain high-quality respiratory care services for the facility. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
- Master's Degree: Preferred
- Seven years' technical experience: Required
- Five years' leadership experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner: Required
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications:
- Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP): Required
Essential Functions:
- Oversees and directs staffing of the department, analyzing daily needs and guides staff towards the deployment of appropriate resources. Forecasts future needs based on holidays, projected unit staffing patterns and seasonal trends. Monitors use of overtime and supplemental staff. Provides counsel, direction and motivation for departmental personnel in the function of the department. Provides oversight of staffing needs. Provides counsel and discipline as required to registry staff and provides feedback to vendor. Assures appropriate quality and quantity of registry staff to meet patient care requirements and productivity/efficiency standards.
- Ensures compliance with staffing levels, employee competencies, performance improvement, quality, policy and procedure development, and productivity management. Oversees the ordering of all non-stock supplies and equipment necessary to maintain the smooth operation of pulmonary department and provide the best possible patient care. Participates in the identification and evaluation of new equipment used by the respiratory therapy staff.
- Initiates and maintains mutually beneficial contracts with local contract labor vendors. Evaluates contract staff in accordance with policies. Monitors and reports expenditures related to registry use. Assures compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and other regulatory agencies within the department.
- Responsible for the financial viability of the department including budget preparation and monitoring, productivity monitoring, capital equipment justification and acquisition, coding and charge master development and monitoring. Develops, implements and maintains department budget through the economical use of supplies and controls expenses.
- Identifies quality improvement opportunities and possible solutions and shares them with management. Ensures the quality improvement programs for the department meets regulatory agency standards along with providing statistical reports and updates.
