Job Summary:
Performs non-invasive, routine, technical support services under the specific authorization and supervision of a licensed physician, podiatrist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or nurse midwife.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) Health Care Provider certification: Required
- Successful completion of audiometry and vision training or have a certificate from Child Health and Disability Prevention Program (CHDP) within six months of hire: Preferred
- Phlebotomy certificate: Preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Medical Assistant - NCCT (NCCT) or Certified Medical Assistant- NHA (CMA-NHA) or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Medical Assistant (MA) or American Medical Tech Board MA (MA-AMT): Required
Essential Functions:
- Sets up exam rooms and checks in patients. Maintains a patient recall system, including continuity of care log for lab tests, referrals and transfers. Maintains responsibility for accurately and responsively performing routine assigned tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practitioner for patient care. Performs simple, routine tasks of care for patients and reports patients’ status and concerns to Registered Nurses (RNs).
- Performs blood collection by venipuncture and arterial puncture. Assists in preparation of specimens, operation of selected equipment and clerical duties.
- Obtains vital signs, and reports significant findings and pertinent patient observations to clinic physician. Elevates questions, problems and significant challenges to more senior healthcare staff for direction or subject matter expertise.
- Maintains responsibility for accurately and responsively performing routine assigned tasks of limited complexity, e.g., checking blood pressure, taking vitals, recording medicines and scribing. Performs audiometry and vision testing, as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
