Job Summary:
Maintains responsibility for the overall management of the laboratory’s Quality Assurance Program. Supervises laboratory staff as assigned and is responsible for directing the activities of various levels of assigned laboratory personnel. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
- Master's degree: Preferred
- Five years' technical experience: Preferred
- One year's leadership experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license in state of employment: Required in CA
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates, performs, and may supervise a variety of routine and complex technical tasks associated with the performance of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Directs and monitors personnel in the performance of laboratory functions in order to assure adequate patient care and quality work .
- Performs related duties in the laboratory to include specimen handling, using manual and automatic equipment to test specimens, and perform and report analytical tests. Provides advanced problem solving, troubleshooting, interpretation and consultation, verification of specimen quality and test results. Communicates problems/issues to responsible individuals.
- Establishes, documents, and maintains programs to assure the quality of all clinical laboratory functions as required to meet accreditation/licensure standards of TJC, CAP, State of Oregon, CDC, and Federal Government. Takes appropriate action to maintain the standards of the above mentioned agencies when necessary.
- Coordinates the processing of patient samples or perform processing as needed based on staffing levels using appropriate identification techniques and written procedures to ensure quality material for testing. Plans and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, and resources for subsequent performance of duties.
- Monitors laboratory compliance with the standards established in the quality assurance program and reports those finding to laboratory administration, staff, and to the appropriate committees. Responds to and resolves quality related problems.
