Job Summary:
Plans, implements, manages and evaluates the Nurse Residency Program. Assesses, develops, implements, facilitates and evaluates the residency educational and development programs. Integrates the program into existing institutional strategies for nurse graduate recruitment and retention. Implements and oversees an evidence based curriculum that focuses on patient outcomes, leadership in the management of patient care, and the professional role of the nurse. Coordinates small program(s) with limited budget/impact.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred
- Clinical education experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
Facility Specific License/Certifications:
- Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS): Required
Essential Functions:
- Collaborates with other departments in the nurse residency recruitment process. Serves as a mentor to guide/support residents in the classroom and clinical settings. Applies substantial knowledge and experience to perform a wide range of advanced activities and/or determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Assigns resources, monitors work, develops and administers schedules, and oversees achievement of performance requirements for assigned teams, as requested.
- Serves as a clinical resource for staff and members of the healthcare team. Plans, coordinates and validates nursing student placements for clinical rotations with schools and colleges of nursing. Participates in continuous quality improvement teams and activities. Provides guidance to staff regarding established work area and policies.
- Designs educational programs to meet identified learning needs of clinical staff. Coordinates formal/informal educational offerings for staff. Maintains ongoing evaluation of the program including a database of the program’s progression. Makes decisions regarding daily priorities for a work group, as assigned, such as coordinating work activities, monitoring adherence to schedules and reporting resource issues.
- Maintains required information related to nursing students and instructors. Participates in committees and performance improvement activities.
