Job Summary:
Maintains a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, employees and staff. Performs patrols, enforces hospital safety and security policies, monitors alarms and closed-circuit television systems and responds to provide assistance in both non-emergency and emergency situations.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
- Experience in a healthcare setting: Preferred
- Security experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Security Officer License: Preferred
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Preferred
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification: Preferred
- Valid Driver’s License (DL) and must be at least 21 years of age or older: Required
Essential Functions:
- Adheres to and enforces hospital security guidelines in all areas and notifies nursing supervisor of any concerns. Patrols facilities according to defined schedule. Monitors alarms and closed-circuit television systems.
- Protect persons and property which may mean physically guarding and restraining violent/potentially violent people including psychiatric and medical patients and/or unwanted guests. Responds to emergency situations per procedures.
- Directs visitors to destinations after verifying approval. Documents name in log and provides with badge. Escorts persons, as required.
- Records detailed, specific and accurate information of events and situations as needed according to hospital policies and procedures. Participates in investigations as needed and maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities daily. Conducts initial investigations appropriately and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs duties such as outside lighting checks, general department vehicle maintenance or cleanup, placing parking cones or barriers in parking areas providing traffic control.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
