Job Summary:
Coordinates dynamic activities which occur over a 24-hour period. Provides input in Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system development, department objectives and budget preparation. Performs duties of a liaison with ancillary agencies, hospital staff and media representatives. Performs tasks required to assure efficient and effective delivery of emergency care in the pre-hospital environment. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
- Three years' full time experience in a 911 system: Preferred
- Supervisory and/or management experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Paramedic license in state of practice: Required (National Registry Preferred)
- Valid Driver’s License (DL) and must be at least 21 years of age or older: Required
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) Healthcare Provider or equivalent: Required
- AHA ACLS or equivalent: Required
- AHA PALS or equivalent: Required
- NAEMT PHTLS or equivalent: Required
- Paramedic (PM) or National Paramedic (NPARA): Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or RQIACLS: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or RQIPALS: Required
Essential Functions:
- Directs, in collaboration with the department manager, the daily operation of the ambulance department and unit deployment in manner which provides the most effective and efficient utilization of available resources.
- Participates in applicant screening and evaluation. Evaluates staff assigned to shift and recommends actions designed to maximize employee performance. Plans, supervises, conducts and reviews training designed to maintain readiness and proficiency levels as required by the department standards.
- Provides individualized care plan for patient presentation according to the acceptable medical practice standards, issued standing orders, on-line medical control and department policies and procedures.
- Schedules Emergency Medical Service (EMS) activities at stations. Supervises and inspects stations, vehicles, equipment and employees to determine preparedness. Consistently meets all regulatory and hospital requirements. Conducts rounds/audits to ensure compliance with required standards. Communicates findings to Nurse Manager and works together on any corrective actions.
