Job Summary:
Schedules, confirms and maintains patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries and medical consultations for specific departments. Reviews and analyzes cancellations, double bookings or changes in schedules. Ensures service payment by verifying benefits with insurance companies and discussing financing options.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
- Medical assistant experience in an outpatient setting: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Medical Assistant certification: Preferred
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Preferred
Essential Functions:
- Schedules patients for surgery and completes appropriate paperwork for surgery facilities. Verifies patient insurance coverage, determines whether surgical referrals or authorizations are needed and begins necessary processes.
- Fills out paperwork to schedule appointments, including authorization numbers, coding, insurance card copies, demographic sheets, chart notes, patient instructions and preoperative testing and procedure orders.
- Schedules patients for diagnostic tests, based on physician orders. Schedules medical and cardiac clearance, per physician orders. Sends completed surgery packets to surgery facilities and pre-op departments.
- Meets or calls surgery patients to inform them about procedure dates and facilities. Schedules patients for follow-up appointments, tests and exams.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
