Job Summary:
Performs outpatient ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. Produces images of internal body tissues in order to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions such as heart disease, pregnancy and cancer.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Certificate or Diploma from approved ultrasound school: Required
- Bachelor's Degree in radiological technology or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor's): Preferred
- Master's Degree: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification within one year of hire: Required
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Sonography: Preferred
Essential Functions:
- Uses ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient’s body and capture quality images that describe the composition, shape and motion of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology. Summarizes, documents, verifies and presents images, findings, calculations and measurements to physicians for diagnoses. Adheres to ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, precautions and standards.
- Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate. Positions patients and equipment, prepares patients for procedures and continually monitors and records vital signs. Observes for reactions and signs of impending complications and intervening as needed.
- Maintains accurate records, files and billing information. Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
- Prepares rooms and patients for subsequent ultrasound procedures.
- Verifies operational status of equipment prior to daily utilization.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
