Position Title: IT Programmer Internal Title: Departmental Assistant I
Department: Information Technology Job Classification: Regular Full Time
Accountable to: IT Director
Position Summary:
This position requires a high degree of concentrated time writing TV, mobile and web application code and a working knowledge of the methods and goals of It Is Written. The ideal candidate must possess knowledge of programming software and have the ability to acquire additional skills and programming languages on the job. It is crucial that this position supports the mission and values of It Is Written by exemplifying the values and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in all interactions.
Authority & Accountability:
Authority as delegated by and directly responsible to the Director of Information Technology in accordance with It Is Written’s policies and objectives.
Essential Position Functions:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and highly-available TV, mobile, and web applications tailored to ministry needs.
- Create database tables and code to aggregate data across several platforms.
- Integrate databases and data sources into the system to support multimedia content.
- Stylize and implement a management interface for a variety of web apps. This includes creating graphs and tables of relevant data.
- Create integrations between content management-driven websites with back-end systems.
- Update, maintain and expand on a central API for app communications.
- Update and maintain API and authentication systems.
- Collaborate with other team members in the office environment to learn, support, encourage, improve, and complete tasks and duties.
- Be available to meet in person for IT team meetings, project meetings, and in collaboration with team members from other departments.
- Test and troubleshoot TV, mobile and web applications using test lab equipment in the office environment.
- Fulfill other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Position Specifications:
Qualifications, Scope, and Complexity of Duties:
- Education:
A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required.
A bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science is preferred.
- Experience:
A minimum of one (1) year of experience writing code is required.
Demonstratable aptitude for Programming is required. Experience with Ruby on Rails is preferred. Experience with SQL language syntax is preferred.

- Possess proficiency in modern coding languages and libraries for web applications. Examples: Ruby on Rails, Java, Javascript, HTML5 and CSS3.
- Demonstrate experience with software including databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and browsers.
- Possess experience with tools used in writing TV, mobile and web applications.
- Exhibit a willingness to learn new skills and technologies.

Specific Requirements:
- Hourly, 38 regular hours per week.
