On this journey, we have identified an opening within our Quality team to add a team member who is passionate about driving customer experience through improved product, quality planning, inspection, and root cause corrective action.  


The primary objectives of the Quality Engineer role include strategic and tactical development and implementation of QMS and TQM methods. Lead implementation and maintenance of quality and continuous improvement programs such as production quality plans, root cause corrective action, incoming inspection, and ERP processes. The Quality Engineer will also be responsible for working directly with suppliers to improve the quality of supplied components, establishing, and tracking KPI’s and training production personnel on quality best practices. Successful quality engineers are comfortable working in fast-paced environments. The Quality Engineer will report directly to the Quality Manager. They will strategically guide quality and production personnel in process and actions supporting compliance and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities for Quality Engineer


Administration

  • Strategic development of TQM and QMS methods focused on production processes and future state throughout the operation.
  • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required.
  • Own the production quality plan/alert program. This will include establishing quality plans for each workstation, upkeep of the quality plans and communicating quality alerts to the floor when appropriate.
  • Facilitate the Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) program: this includes managing open RCCA’s and working with the owners to ensure timely and effective completion. Responsible for verifying the effectiveness of Corrective Actions and training on RCCA best practices.
  • Manage discrepant materials, issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR’s) and work with the suppliers to ensure timely and effective completion of SCAR’s.
  • Work with Engineering to establish specifications for new and existing components. Flow down specifications to the suppliers.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to quality control team, other departments and suppliers as required.
  • Support company training objectives and further the development of Quality staff by developing training, conducting classes, and participating in related meetings.
  • Assist in onboarding of ERP system. This will include ensuring quality processes are properly captured, identifying opportunities for improvement, and tracking KPI’s. 

 Quality Control

  • Conduct quality audits and risk assessments for design, people, processes, and tasks to ensure quality project completion.
  • Responsible for multiple highly complex projects requiring innovative solutions to ensure test environment, product, functional, and stress testing evaluations and resolution are completed to customer and company standards.
  • Drive improvement in component and material quality by establishing processes to identify defects and improve the supply base.
  • Review, analyze and report on quality discrepancies and data related to production defects.
  • Oversee and maintain compliance for all product lines.
  • Communication
  • Draw on wider technical expertise to be the primary interface to develop and maintain client network and relationships. Manage the interface between the customer and engineering as well as internal interfaces between sales, quality, supply chain and production.
  • Be the technical voice for the organization and keep up to date with Quality systems.
  • Communicate with management on program status, risks, and issues in an appropriate and timely manner. Ensure regular and timely communication between team members.

Qualifications:

  • Education – Four-year degree in a technical/related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience working a quality function in a manufacturing environment.
  • Facilitation and leadership skills with a focus on teamwork are required.
  • Experience and proficiency in formal problem-solving techniques (8D, 5 why, etc.).
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills with internal customers, suppliers, and peers.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and execute duties with minimal verbal or written instruction, and to initiate appropriate actions when needed – often without direct oversight.
  • Critical thinking skills are essential to perform this function.
  • Lean six sigma green belt or black belt preferred.
  • Passion for the outdoor lifestyle leading to in-depth product knowledge a plus.
