Advex Corporation, a trusted name in the defense manufacturing industry since 1969, is seeking a Director of Contracts to oversee and manage the full lifecycle of contract administration. Reporting to the VP and CFO and leading a small team. This role is critical in ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, and driving strategic initiatives in contract execution.
Position Overview
The Director of Contracts will serve as the primary liaison between Advex and its customers, overseeing a high volume of Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial contracts. This individual will be responsible for risk assessment, contract negotiation, administration, and execution while ensuring compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).
This role requires an experienced leader with strong strategic, analytical, and communication skills to support internal stakeholders, executive management, and operations teams in making informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all contract-related functions, including proposal preparation, submissions, negotiations, award administration, execution communications, and record retention.
- Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of contract professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Provide expert guidance on contract strategy, risk assessment, and compliance with company policies and federal, state and local regulations.
- Serve as the primary communication liaison between Advex and its customers, ensuring prompt internal and external communication.
- Maintain the Document control / contract management system, tracking awards, modifications, specifications, progress reports, and other contractual communications.
- Coordinate with Business Development teams to ensure the timely review and submission of bids and proposals.
- Advise stakeholders on contractual rights, obligations, and strategic opportunities during pursuits and execution.
- Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the company’s interests while ensuring compliance with legal and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Operations Management and the Executive Team to align contract terms with business objectives.
- Negotiate contract terms and conditions on all contract awards, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), teaming agreements (TAs), Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCIs) and licenses as required.
- Compile and analyze contractual data to drive informed decision-making.
- Ensure on-time delivery of contract-related obligations to meet customer deadlines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in contract administration.
- Lead in the development, implementation, and maintenance of standard terms and conditions to streamline the process and reduce risk.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field with 8-10 years of experience.
- Extensive experience in DoD contracting, with advanced knowledge of FAR and DFARS.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, negotiating skills and the ability to manage and prioritize tasks using available resources effectively and efficiently.
- Must be proficient with the use of standard Microsoft office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and other generally used business software (e.g. Adobe Acrobat).
- Ability to problem-solve, think critically, and work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
- Excellent multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
- Dedication to meeting deadlines and exceeding customer expectations.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM) or Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) certification.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or defense industry environment.
- Background with DoD bid and proposal process.

Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment:

- No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
