Advocates for Family Peace is a nonprofit located in Grand Rapids and Virginia serving all of Itasca County and northern St. Louis County.

As an employer AFFP has an interest in supporting its members to balance the various demands they face as staff and as people with family responsibilities. We created a policy that allows infants in the workplace until 6 months of age. The goal of this policy is to create a working environment that allows an infant to be with a parent, facilitates the parent’s accomplishments of job performance, and minimizes disruption of the workplace. Our workday mostly ends at 3:30 giving employees time to be with family. This along with other things set us apart from other employers.
VICTIM/SURVIVOR ADVOCACY: Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and support to victims of domestic violence. Provide advocacy within the criminal and civil justice systems, including assisting survivors in filling out Orders for Protection and Harassment Restraining Orders, preparing survivors for court hearings, and accompanying survivors to relevant court hearings. Attend criminal court as necessary and assist in tracking and monitoring the criminal justice system’s response to domestic violence cases. Input criminal court data into the appropriate database. Provide transportation, emergency financial assistance, information, resources, and referrals to survivors as necessary.
DOCUMENTATION: Record survivors’ information and document survivors’ interactions; enter into the appropriate database promptly. Make sure that the necessary survivor's releases of information are signed before sharing any information with outside entities. Keep track of services provided and provide accurate monthly statistics promptly.
COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP & PUBLIC AWARENESS: Work to establish and maintain ongoing communication and relationships with outside agencies, including law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, human services, etc. Assist in public awareness efforts and events related to domestic violence in Itasca County.
GROUP FACILITATION: Assist in facilitating the support group and women’s intervention program as necessary.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Treat the people we serve, co-workers, and the public respectfully and courteously at all times. Maintain confidentiality of agency issues. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with people we serve, customers, co-workers, and supervisors. Attend training or networking meetings as requested by the Executive Director. Create and maintain professional relationships by using effective and timely communication with all appropriate agencies of each case. Represent Advocates for Family Peace at meetings in the absence of the Director. Participate in scheduled staff meetings and board-staff workshops. Adhere to agency policies. Practice self-care and assist in creating a work environment that encourages self-care for all staff. Establish and maintain clear boundaries with the people we serve. Flexibility and adaptability regarding assigned job duties and changes within the agency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma. An AA degree is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, OTHER:
Ability to work independently/use own judgment to coordinate the needs of the office.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Demonstrated ability to be assertive with the people we serve and coordinating agencies.
Demonstrated ability to work well with staff and community members.
Ability to work as a team member.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access database.
Travel required and overnight stays periodically.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate services.
Understanding of violence prevention philosophies.
Flexibility.
Have valid car insurance or inform the executive director of a lack of car insurance.
Hold a valid Minnesota driver’s license (or obtain one within 30 days of employment) and maintain a good driving record.
