Description
Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a young man with a developmental disability. He and his family are looking for a Mentor to assist him with working on his goals both at home and in his community.
Goals include:
• Independent living skills - hygiene skills and household errands
• Participating in community activities - parks, library, movies, stores
Seeking someone who is reliable, enthusiastic, creative, and active. Related experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred but not required. Please respond with a resume or summary of experience.
Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. Internet access and a valid email address are required.
Hours and days of work
One day during the week (3 PM - 6 PM) or Saturday (3-4 hours between 10 AM - 5 PM)
The hours for this position are somewhat flexible, based on the selected candidate’s needs.
Full-time opportunities may be available.
Pay rate: $20.30 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $15.50 per hour.
Location: Pennellville, NY

Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must have a valid email address.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for the job assigned.

- Background checks required
- Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred. Applicable job experience preferred.
- Desired Skills and Abilities: previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred. Knowledge of disability related issues preferred.
- Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
