About the role:

Adweek seeks an innovative, entrepreneurial SVP, Editor in Chief (EIC) to direct, expand, and elevate our brand across digital, social, print, live events, and beyond. The SVP, Editor in Chief will lead the newsroom and editorial staff and will work in tandem with the Chief Content Officer (CCO) to set the content strategy, execute it, and evolve it based on audience, data, and industry signals. They will be responsible for setting the brand focus, voice, and messaging, which will extend everywhere from the site and the magazine to live events and client outreach. They will be responsible for overseeing all content produced and should have extensive experience across platforms, including digital, print, newsletter, and social, as well as experience shaping and leading teams with diverse backgrounds. The right candidate will be able to balance various business goals including audience growth, subscription growth, and revenue. This role requires an ability to use analytics to grow the business and make thoughtful data-informed decisions about the newsroom and resourcing.

Our SVP, Editor in Chief will unify and support the existing team as well as push them forward to expand readership and engagement. The SVP, Editor in Chief will also be a public-facing position responsible for representing the brand at events, panels, client meetings, and other community opportunities.

The SVP, Editor in Chief reports to the Chief Content Officer and works closely with the Chief Executive Officer as well as the rest of the leadership team to execute Adweek’s go-forward content strategy. The Editor in Chief will collaborate closely with the marketing, communications, product, audience, and sales teams. They will also build and maintain a first-rate stable of external contributors.

HERES WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON

  • Lead the editorial team across all platforms to ensure Adweek’s content is high-value, creative, entertaining, and unique.

  • Liaise with Product, Audience and Analytics, Experiences, Revenue, and Executive teams to drive audience reach and evolve the brand’s offering.

  • Develop new franchises and tentpoles across the site, social platforms, and print to drive readership; work closely with Experiences team to extend these opportunities to live events.

  • Work with partners across the brand to determine the premium content strategy to grow the subscription business.

  • Serve as a change leader who embraces and encourages a test-and-learn environment where we love data, fail fast, and constantly iterate.

  • Ensuring that rankings, lists, and recognition programs are rigorously researched and editorially sound.

What Will Set you apart:

  • The Editor in Chief should have 10 years of extensive background in journalism and reporting; a track record of building a brand with clear differentiation and purpose; experience with free and paid products and how to differentiate premium.

  • A successful SVP, Editor in Chief will understand and evangelize the balance of data and gut instinct. They will be an experienced manager who leads with empathy and clarity and is able to shift easily from big-picture strategic thinking to granular decision making in the newsroom. They will have razor-sharp story instincts, a passion for marketing, ad tech, and the media business, plus a track record of inspiring journalists to produce work that is impactful, unique, useful, and compelling.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Details: $190-$250k. The salary range represents the Company’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and location. Please note that this role is hybrid, based out of the New York City office and that Adweek is a New York based company and the salary listed reflects candidates located within the New York tri-state area.
