A Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) will work under the direct supervision of project management and design engineers and will have the opportunity to develop skills in report preparation, design, plan and specification development, construction observation, and construction administration, with an emphasis on public and private civil engineering projects.

A Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) will work under the direct supervision of project management and design engineers and will have the opportunity to develop skills in report preparation, design, plan and specification development, construction observation, and construction administration, with an emphasis on public and private civil engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist project managers and engineers in the design and construction of civil engineering improvements to public or private infrastructure, including land development, general site grading, roadway and paving, underground utilities, and erosion control.
- Assist project managers and engineers with the development and preparation of construction plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
- Perform onsite construction observation and administration.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, memorandums, and presentations.
- Occasionally assist professional surveyors with field work on crews performing data gathering for designs and/or construction staking.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Fundamentals in Engineering certified or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to travel as required, with occasional overnight stays.
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- AutoCAD or Civil 3D experience.
- Previous experience, or internships, with engineering consultants or municipal governments.
- Experience with onsite construction observation and administration.
- ArcGIS experience.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrain
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
- Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight
- May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds
- Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear.
