- Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including inspections, audits, observation and coaching, Worker Trades Committee and JHSC.
- Site specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
- Train and or coordinate employees in Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual, fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control person, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response.
- Identify hazards and potential risks in the field, implement corrective actions, and ensure necessary control measures are in place.
- Conduct and review Job Hazard Assessments (JHA) and Job Assessment Risk Reviews (JARR) to assess task risks and establish safety controls.
- Lead safety orientations for new employees and conduct daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with safety policies, ensuring proper issuance and closure of required permits (e.g., hot work, confined space).
- Investigate safety incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Inspects project facilities and recommends and follows up on corrective actions.
- Maintain thorough records of all safety-related activities, including daily inspections, employee orientations, safety logs, pre-planning JHAs and JARRs, training records, meeting minutes, and incident reports.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and company safety regulations while staying updated on industry standards and best practices.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction site safety.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessments, and job safety analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage effectively with workers, supervisors, and management.
- Experience leading safety training sessions and toolbox talks.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in safety reporting and documentation.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable working on active construction sites with heavy equipment and elevated work areas.
- Capability to walk, stand, and climb for extended periods.
