Overview
The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) seeks a full-time, in-person events assistant or associate to work with the Development events team to plan and execute the AEI’s highest-level strategic events for its supporters.
Qualified candidates should submit a resume, a cover letter demonstrating their interest in AEI’s mission, and an academic transcript. The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
- Create regional and signature event invitations, reminders, and follow-up emails through Marketo and Salesforce software and work with the broader Development team to compile targeted invite lists and produce the appropriate event materials.
- Coordinate directly with a select number of venues in the planning and execution events, including securing the location, selecting food and beverages, and communicating about group size in the lead up to the event.
- Manage email communications with AEI donors on the Development Events group email list and update Salesforce database as accordingly, including event RSVPs.
- Attend and execute on-site registration for regional and signature events. This entails interacting with donors and VIPs and fielding questions about event experience, lodging, and transportation.
- Produce metrics reports and export, format, and present data on a recurring basis and as requested.
- Proactively develop new processes and refine existing processes to support team functionality and consistency.
- Develop relationships with the Development team through weekly meetings to understand donor preferences and needs.
- Learn about AEI’s scholars and their research to determine which scholars are best suited for events.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Physical requirements and working conditions at AEI:
- The employee is regularly expected to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. This job requires close vision abilities due to computer work.
- The employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
- The employee must be able to work in a confined area.
- Moderate noise (e.g., from computers, phone, printers, and light traffic) is expected.

Qualifications
- BA or BS with an interest in public policy
- Assistant: 0–2 years of previous, full-time event-planning experience
- Associate: 2–4 years of previous, full-time event-planning experience
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to assist clients with a calm, courteous, and helpful manner and attitude.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent time-management skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines and multitask.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and to proactively enhance efficiency across tasks.

Compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: scope and responsibilities of the position; a candidate's full-time, applicable work experience; key skills and qualifications; as well as internal and external market considerations. The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $48,000 - $60,000. Salary is just one component of AEI’s total compensation package for employees.
