What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Intern: Coalition Defense of Taiwan position at AEI?
Overview
The Coalition Defense of Taiwan intern will conduct research in support of American Enterprise Institute scholar Dan Blumenthal and others. The portfolio focuses on US defense policy and security issues in the Indo-Pacific, including China’s military modernization, interests and objectives of US allies, and cross-Strait relations.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Monitoring political and military developments in the region,
- Researching historical and contemporary events,
- Examining key aspects of modern warfighting in recent conflicts,
- Compiling sources in English and Chinese, and
- Collecting and organizing data.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A demonstrated interest in policy issues around cross-Strait relations and Asian security challenges,
- Research experience in defense studies or related internship experience,
- Close attention to detail,
- The ability to work independently,
- Mandarin Chinese language high desired, but not required
- A positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.
The start dates for the summer program are May 27 and June 3. While the AEI Internship Program and all related programming will take place in-person in Washington, DC this summer, virtual interns may be accepted on a case by case basis.
