JOB DESCRIPTION
The Structural Steel Detailer is responsible for the complete design and coordination of the structural support steel from conceptual design to release for fabrication. Using the best practice in engineering and applicable design standards they will prepare detailed fabrication drawings to meet the customers’ specifications. Coordination with the design team, strategic partners, customers, project management, construction management and the fabrication and manufacturing arms of the company is essential in order meet project objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Structural Steel Detailer is primarily responsible for creating fabrication documents from conceptual drawings and models.
- Work as an individual/joint contributor on specially assigned projects.
- Develop conceptual designs for preliminary budgeting and sales presentations.
- Design tasks will include model building based on design documents, detailed design, submittal review, design meetings, coordination of checking and release of detail drawings to fabrication.
- Coordinate all support activities required to complete all design/detailing efforts and quality assurance process.
- Involvement may be necessary during the pre-construction phase which may involve site visits.
- Communicate with appropriate departments to clarify project requirements and necessary supporting documentation.
- Maintain job files.
- Keep records of job received, examine for accuracy and completeness. Identify potential drawing issues and redesign to improve fabrication.
- Generate post processing files for fabrication including KISS files, CNC files, and various other reports to aid the fabrication shops.
- Become familiar with company products and practices.
- Communicate with customers, vendors, field engineers, and manufacturers.
REQUIREMENTS
- 2 to 5 years of structural steel detailing experience.
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in drafting or engineering technology; OR equivalent architectural, structural, civil, or similar industry experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Working knowledge in AISC, ASME, CEMA, ASTM, MSHA and other applicable codes.
- Experience with mining material handling/conveyors a plus.
- Experience with SDS/2 preferred or similar steel detailing software. Autodesk suite experience a plus (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, etc.).
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn new processes and applications.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
