Job Summary
The Director of Tax Compliance & Forecasting is responsible for leading and driving state and federal income tax filings for AEP & its system companies including researching, reviewing technical tax positions & disclosures in collaboration with the Tax management and AEP Legal teams as well as leading & driving the tax forecast for AEP and its system companies including analysis of tax expense, cash taxes, and efficiency of utilization of tax credits in collaboration with the Tax management team.Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Key member of Tax leadership team providing leadership and management to approximately 35 members of the Tax Community.
- Manage filing of income tax returns, method changes, and Private Letter Rulings for AEP system companies for federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
- Collaborate with tax counsel regarding the preparation of the above as well as protests and briefs for the appeal or litigation of proposed adjustments to federal, state, and local income and franchise taxes.
- Manage bi-annual tax forecast including collaborating with other Tax Directors to ensure appropriate tax treatment of forecasted economic events, assumptions, etc. Deliverables include Tax Assumption Decks, presentations to Tax Community & Senior Leadership, as well as sensitivity analysis relative to the base tax forecast.
- Execute AEP and system Companies tax sharing agreement for Federal and State Income tax purposes including collaborating with Tax Accounting Team on recording the tax sharing payments & receipts.
- Meaningfully contribute and collaborate with Tax Planning, Tax Accounting, Tax Regulatory and Non-Income Tax leaders on business-oriented tax analysis including, but not limited to, Due Diligence, Sale analysis, Legislative tax impacts and other special projects.
- Lead and mentor Tax Team members including building their technical & communication skill sets. In addition, continue to promote timely and high-quality deliverables from team members.
- Actively participate in developing, formalizing, and executing upon strategic goals for the entire Tax team as well as for individual direct reports.
- Actively engage in developing and fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging Tax Community culture.
- Effectively maintain and manage SOX controls
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- CPA/JD or advanced degree preferred.
Work Experience:
- Minimum ten years of tax experience to include tax return compliance and three years of direct supervisory experience.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Professional tax experience within the utility industry.
- Prior work experience in area of Tax forecasting.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong written & oral communication skills required.
- Candidate will need to be action-oriented with the experience to anticipate business needs.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to solve (i.e., shutdown) complex issues.
