Overview

A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Operator for lathe and mill machines plays a crucial role in the manufacturing industry, responsible for producing precision parts and components from various materials. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of CNC machinery and tools.

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Operation

  • Set up and operate CNC lathe and mill machines according to production specifications and job orders.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs to determine machining operations and ensure accurate production.
  • Load raw materials into the machine and set up tooling and fixtures as required.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect any malfunctions or deviations from specifications and make necessary adjustments.

2. Quality Control

  • Inspect finished parts and components using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Identify and address any defects or non-conformities in the produced parts.
  • Maintain accurate records of production runs, quality checks, and any issues encountered during the machining process.

3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC lathe and mill machines to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any mechanical or technical issues that arise during machine operation.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to schedule and perform preventative maintenance tasks.

4. Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Comply with industry regulations and company policies regarding machine operation and workplace safety.

Required Skills and Qualifications1. Technical Skills

  • Proficient in operating CNC lathe and mill machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments and tools for quality control purposes.
  • Knowledge of various machining processes, materials, and cutting tools.
  • Machine setup.

2. Mechanical Aptitude

  • Strong understanding of machine mechanics and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Familiarity with machine maintenance procedures and the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks.

3. Attention to Detail

  • Meticulous and precise in executing machining operations to ensure high-quality output.
  • Able to identify and address defects or non-conformities in produced parts.

4. Communication and Teamwork

  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
  • Able to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in CNC machining is preferred.
  • Previous experience operating CNC lathe and mill machines in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and programming CNC machines is an advantage.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 38 per week
