Position Summary
The buyer is responsible for placing purchase orders, managing suppliers, providing shop support and inventory control.
Essential Functions
· Place purchase orders for outside services and materials.
· Supplier management, including delivery commitments, shipment issues, and compliance to customer specifications.
· Coordinate product transfer to and from suppliers.
· Evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability and other criteria.
· Interview vendors and visiting suppliers’ facilities to learn about products, services and pricing.
· Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best value on behalf of the company.
· MRP planning and inventory control.
· Plan, coordinate and track both dock and driving schedules on a daily basis.
· Open to being cross-trained in various areas of the Supply Chain business unit.
· Authorize payments and maintain receipts, records and inventories.
· Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy in dealings with co-workers, team members and managers.
· Some travel may be expected.

Experience and Education
Degree in a business field preferred or 5 years purchasing experience.
