Aero Structures Long Island is a family and veteran owned small business founded in 1961 as a small machine shop now located in Westbury, NY. ASLI specializes in the machining of “build to print” complex structural components and highly complex assemblies for the aerospace industry. Today, we produce precision-machined and monolithic structural components and assemblies for a variety of programs, including the military aircrafts CH-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey, CH-53K, E2D, and the F/A-18 Hornet fighters. Our commercial aircraft programs include the Boeing 767 and the Gulfstream G550 & G650.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Manufacturing Operations Lead to drive and optimize our machining and manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aerospace manufacturing, combined with proven leadership, exceptional communication, and sharp problem-solving skills. This is a fast-paced and demanding role that requires someone who is self-motivated, highly organized, collaborative, and driven to ensure operational excellence across the shop floor.

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Operations Lead is responsible for managing the end-to-end production process—from process planning and programming to machining and final manufacturing. This role oversees the site’s programming, machining, tooling, fixturing, honing, and deburring departments, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal throughput. The Manufacturing Operations Lead directs the daily operations of the Machine Centers, aligning activities with production schedules, performance metrics, and overall organizational objectives. Key responsibilities include planning and assigning work, maintaining strict adherence to manufacturing procedures and quality standards, and proactively resolving issues related to prioritization and resource allocation. Additionally, this role coordinates building and equipment maintenance and ensures all operations are conducted in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
· Supervise and coordinate programming and manufacturing operations to ensure timely production Lead and oversee programming and manufacturing teams to ensure high-quality production is completed on schedule and meets all specifications.

· Manage resources effectively by prioritizing tasks, monitoring workflows, and optimizing the use of personnel, equipment, and materials.

· Collaborate with Engineering and Program Management to develop efficient manufacturing processes and resolve tooling, material, and scheduling challenges.

· Provide clear communication of production status, resource needs, and potential risks to leadership and cross-functional teams.

· Drive resolution of production issues by working closely with programming, engineering, and shop floor personnel to improve workflow and reduce delays.

· Continuously evaluate and enhance manufacturing processes, with a focus on maximizing in-house capabilities and advancing CNC machining operations.

· Support engineering in reviewing blueprints and maintenance plans, while contributing to long-term operational and capacity planning.

· Ensure consistent communication and documentation of technical data, process controls, and preventative maintenance to maintain operational readiness and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline with 8 years of manufacturing/engineering leadership experience.

a. OR Graduate degree with 6 years of experience

b. OR 13 years of hands-on experience in lieu of a degree

· Proven experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing

· Permanent authorization to work in the United States (required due to defense industry contracts)

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam X8 and/or Siemens NX
  • Experience with CATIA V5 for model interrogation, analysis, and drawing creation
  • Strong technical expertise in CNC machining, including hands-on experience
  • Familiarity working with aluminum, titanium, and other hard metals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and implementation
  • Comfortable managing and analyzing production data (Excel, ERP systems, etc.)
  • Experience with Boeing requirements and solid model interpretation
