Aerospace & Marine International (AMI) has been providing weather services to the maritime industry since 1991. We maintain operations centers in both the USA (OK) and UK. Our centers are fully networked and work together to deliver global 24-hour weather forecasting services. We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about the weather and is excited to work with other Meteorologists to help deliver our products and services to our clients.
- POSITION TITLE: Meteorologist Marine Transportation Operations / Ship Route Analyst
- FLSA STATUS: Exempt
- POSITION SUMMARY: The Ship Route Analyst, based on predicted weather and ocean current conditions, provides routing advice to ship captains to help ensure vessel safety, and to provide for economical passage to the destination. The analyst is trained in these skills for all seasons and across all major maritime trade routes of the world.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The analyst will analyze weather patterns to identify an optimal strategy for voyages of 2-4 weeks or more. Candidates must possess quality written communication skills to express often complex reasoning for advice given. Strong attention to detail is essential for the analysis of ship reports to assess if proper and complete information is received.
- QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: Education and/or experience in subjects of meteorology, oceanography, geography, or navigation principles receive the highest preference. Ability to read and interpret basic weather and oceanographic information desired, but additional weather training will be provided. Must be able to work with computers and learn proprietary applications, as AMI is a paperless all-computer environment.
- WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS: This analyst position may work from one of the locations of the operations noted above, and is entirely performed on systems operating proprietary software applications.
- SALARY NOTES: While this is noted as entry-level, it is recognized that the minimum qualifications identified here are above traditional base skills. The term used here is relative to AMI's organization. The actual base salary is initially set within a range of $38K – $42K /yr basis of the candidate's skill set. Salary is likely to adjust after a 6-8 month training period dependent on demonstrated skill development, proficiency, and productivity. Experienced candidates would be evaluated for a higher salary and promotion timeline dependent on the merit of abilities and performance.
- EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: The base is 10 hours per day, generally four days per week, amounting to a 40-hour work week. Shifts will include days, evenings, and on more rare occasions mid-shifts once able to work independently. Periodic changes in work days may be required to compensate for the holiday periods of other team members.
