The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing job duties as assigned by Management, including in-process inspections and collaboration with the production, engineering, and quality teams. The role involves monitoring the quality of manufacturing processes and finished products on the production floor, supporting a lean culture focused on continuous improvement and waste reduction.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Verify prior operations for completion and acceptance.
- Compare work instructions on travelers to manufactured products, ensuring correct part numbers, drawings, revisions, and approvals.
- Perform dimensional and visual inspections of sheet metal and machined parts or assemblies per blueprints and industry standards.
- Inspect parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for workmanship standards, including damage, foreign object debris (FOD), and proper orientation.
- Conduct mechanical and dimensional inspections using, calipers, micrometers, scales, and other precision tools.
- Assist in developing and implementing inspection plans with the quality engineering team.
- Support operators with informal training referencing company and industry standards.
- Inspect received products from Mills vendors and outsource suppliers according to Talsco quality management systems, job router instructions, and vendor purchase order details.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete Quality inspection reports, such as AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI), quality documentation, PPAP, and APQP per AS91000 standard.
- Review and complete work orders, engineering changes, material discrepancies, rework documentation, test data, and other records.
- Perform surveillance audits of manufacturing workmanship, process compliance, and equipment calibration.
- Generate non-conformance reports (NCRs) and escalate manufacturing issues to the QAE and/or Foreman.
- Verify shipping and receiving activities to align with order fulfillment and schedules.
- Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings, root cause analysis, and corrective action initiatives.
- Submit required documents per customer source inspection requirements, follow-up on inspection schedule, inspection results, and their submission through customer portals.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with production and quality engineering teams to resolve quality issues and optimize manufacturing processes.
- Work closely with department leads to make informed production decisions and address critical concerns.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, efficiency, and continual improvement.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles, focusing on reducing waste and enhancing productivity.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (further education or certifications in a relevant field preferred).
- 5 years of experience in quality inspection.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Hands-on experience with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, profilometers, thread/ring/pin gauges).
- Proficiency in conducting inspections using Keyence and OGP measuring machines (CMM preferred but not mandatory).
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively, including emails and technical reports.
- Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends on short notice.
- Experience with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality standards.
- ERP/MRP system experience.
- Background in aerospace industry inspections.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
